Help! trying to get to school with amtrak?

Never taken that route, but have taken Amtrak. Amtrak is a great experience, very relaxing...not something you want to do if you're in a rush. On top of any scheduled delays there are often UNscheduled delays...but a relaxing way to travel and see the country. If you plan on taking it across the country, plan on it being a long trip! As far as killing time...you can always check out what there is to do in the town in which you'll be delayed, bring good books, etc...
